I am astounded. Completely in awe. I went back to visit my friends who are a couple (Karly is 22, Joshua is 20) and their newborn baby boy, and had planned to sleepover at her house. With the tiny bladder that I have, I left to go to the bathroom upstairs. As I am walking up the stairs, I turn to admire the baby room when my eyes dark to the blonde roommate (the mom of the 6 yr. old who is allowed to watch family guy, I'll call her Linda) who's hands are wrapped around the father of the newborn. He returns the gesture with what looks like a potential kiss. My knees are locked, and I plow them forward hoping not to be seen at all. I make it to my destination; The bathroom. Looking in the mirror I am stunned. My first thought: are they always so touchy feely, is this normal? Are my eyes playing a trick on me and creating false brain waves to assume more..?
I exit the bathroom and make a sharp right turn into my friends room, grabbing a blanket and pillow to sleep on the couch. I make it down stairs, foggy-minded and still extremely confused. Not even a minute after I get downstairs, Joshua makes his way down and tries to get me to come talk to him outside. I refuse and say I'm sitting right here. He walks by me and sits down, and begins with " Did you know Me, Linda and Karly are in a polyamous relationship?" I kick my head back in confusion. What the hell did he just say? He goes on to say that he knows I saw him trying to kiss Linda. Hell yes I did, and I'll be damned if I don't go straight to Karly and tell her my seeings. He smiles at me and says to Google what it means, as if I was actually going to do that. ( I end up doing it first chance I got)
After ten minutes he brings Karly downstairs and we all sit on the couch, awkwardly waiting for the silence to shatter. I am first to speak and I blurt out "Can someone lay the shit on the table?"
Karly proceeds to explain the rules of this sharing game, where you can date who you want while being in multiple relationships, as long as all parties are aware. Joshua dominates the conversation for the remainder of the time, enlightening me of his "Relationship" with Linda.
I feel sick. I have never heard of something like this, ever. I wonder if this is something Karly really wants.. She has always been the passive one in the relationship and I worry that he threw the idea her way once or twice, and then she just thought there was no other way to make it work with a child unless she did it his way.
The couple goes out to smoke a cigarette and I am sitting there, flabbergasted. I am not even sure I can make out logical thoughts right this moment. It feels like hours pass before I get the nerve to collect myself, gather my things and walk outside to approach them. I feel like I don't know them, and that makes me sad. I would do anything for these two, and their blessing of a son. Joshua says he was surprised I acted so shocked, and I was intimidated by him saying that. How should I have respond? I mean, I am totally for the gay community being with who they love, but the thought of loving two or more people at one time blew my mind.
I tell him that I need to wrap my brain around it first, and he seems offended by that. Unknowingly why, I tell him that within the last 20 minutes I went from thinking Karly & Him were happy, to thinking Joshua was cheating on Karly, and then to finding out Joshua is dating Linda. Excuse me if my brain feels fried from all the shit that was just revealed to me. I explain that I want to sleep in my own bed tonight, and I head to my car to go home.
Once home, I receive a text from Joshua saying he didn't understand my response, but he hoped that we could move past it. I was pissed at this time, and fought back the urge to send the novel response I intended on sharing with him.
The next day I replied, telling him that I didn't understand why he would go for Linda, the one person Karly sees everyday. It wasn't fair. I told him that I still loved him, but he was putting up a fight. He began to get hostile towards me, and jumped to the conclusion that I was never going to be okay with what he was doing ( keep in mind, I have only known about what is going on for not even 24 hours). He finalizes that we can't be friends, that I am not welcomed in his home or in his son's life. I am crushed, I cannot believe what I am reading.

7 year old girl watching "Family Guy"
I am driving to visit my friend who just had a baby & I am hoping the newborn is still downstairs sleeping so I can pick the cutie up & hold him. I walk into my friends home & unexpectedly everyone is wide awake, including the freshman in high school daughter & second grader. I'm a little puzzled as to why the second grader is up, considering it's a Tuesday & kids have school M-F but I proceed to sit down on the couch. What I happen to overlook is the show that's being watched. I become extremely uncomfortable when I hear from the screen talk about gay men having sex & a dog kissing a man romantically & how "Peter" just blew his hand off & is bleeding everywhere. I am so in shock that I am speechless. Family guy for a 7 year old, you've got to be joking. I ask the little girl if she wants to go do something & she is glued to the tv, watching filth language come out of this tv screen. Every other word is foul language, yet the freshman refuses to change it even after I made a comment about how horrible this show was for young kids. Keep in mind, I am not a mother but I do watch a set of twins who are 7 & they are in the " Mind Craft & Animal Farm" phase of their life. If I ever hear them watching games with cussing other than damn, I will make them change it. So witnessing this happen in front of me, I was extremely uncomfortable & more so saddened that the mom would set the same boundaries for her second grader as for her 9th grader. Finally after explaining to her how it corrupts the child mind, the older sister turned it off and we switched it over to "Brain Games." I shortly left, still on a short fuse from what happened. I would love to get feedback on what parents here think about shows like Family Guy, Futurama, & all around adult shows. What are your 7 year olds watching?
